Resin driveways, patios and pathways are gaining popularity due to their durability, aesthetic appeal, and low maintenance requirements. As a contractor specialising in resin-bound installation, having the right tools and equipment is crucial for delivering high-quality results efficiently and effectively. Whether you are a seasoned professional or just starting in the trade, this guide will help you ensure your toolbox is equipped with the essential tools for every resin-bound project.
The Essentials
1) Resin Mixer
A mixer is a must have with resin, not only can it mix a large amount of materials but it is crucial for efficient and consistent mixing. Especially as time is a sensitive manner in order to get a seamless finish across the entire surface that you are covering. The Quattromix forced action 4 bag mixer is a gamechanger with is quality and cost effectiveness, being cheaper than other mixers but offering the same high quality.
2) Trowels
Resin-bound doesn’t get its smooth finish on its own, a quality trowel will not only provide the surface with a smooth, level finish, but also last hundreds of installations and really stand the test of time. At Resins ‘R’ Us, we stock only the best quality tools for the job and have a variety of tools for you to choose from.
3) PPE
As of August 2023, training is required in order to handle resin-containing isocyanates (which is all resin-bound kits). PPE is another must-have, including gloves, goggles, and anything to prevent irritation to skin and eyes.
4) Wheelbarrows
Transport mixtures of resin-bound to the trowelling area with ease. You can also line the wheelbarrows with the hood from our pallets to save time cleaning and prevent old mixes from finding their way into the new mix.
Optional Add-ons
1) Spazzles/Rakes
Spazzles are used to evenly spread the resin-bound mixer across the base surface before it is smoothed by a trowel.
2) Resin Sledge
Similarly to the spazzle/rake, the sledge can be set to a fixed depth to screed the resin-bound materials at right level ready for the trowel to smooth.
3) Power Pole Trowel
A power pole trowel is a set of four trowel blades mounted on a spinning motor, an optional but time effective tool used to trowel larger areas whilst removing the need to walk on the uncured resin surface.
